GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – What better way to cool down from the dog days of summer than with some ice cream?
Today (Sunday) is National Ice Cream Day. According to the National Day Calendar, it takes place every year on the third Sunday in July.
The sweet treat is becoming more popular, according to a study by the financial firm Scholaroo. Last month’s ice cream consumption in the U.S. showed a nearly 10% increase over June 2022.
Wisconsin is one of 23 states where chocolate is the favorite flavor, according to Scholaroo’s Favorite Ice Cream Flavors Index study on consumer preferences and trends. Other favorite flavors in the Badger State are rocky road, cookie dough, cherry and strawberry.
It’s no surprise that America’s Dairyland figures prominently in the history of ice cream. Two Rivers considers itself the birthplace of the ice cream sundae, celebrating this distinction with the annual Sundae Thursday festival.
And summer isn’t the only time to have a dish or cone. FOX 11 Director of Meteorology Pete Petoniak has shared instructions for making ice cream out of snow. (Just make sure the snow is clean!)
