GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Officials say steady shipping numbers for the Port of Green Bay is a sign of a healthy economy.
During the month of June, 234,204 tons of cargo moved through the Port of Green Bay. Year-to-date totals of 664,196 tons show an increase of 10% over the same period last year when the tonnage total was 604,666.
The leading cargo import during June was limestone at 108,114 tons. Other imports in June included cement (41,428 tons), salt (32,836 tons), coal (28,177 tons), petroleum products (17,885) and wood pulp (1,987 tons).
“We know just how important reliable and cost-effective transportation options are for so many industries in NE Wisconsin,” Dean Haen, Port of Green Bay Director said. “We’re proud to partner with the businesses who use the port and we’re truly optimistic about future Great Lakes shipping and the Port of Green Bay.”
During the month of June, 21 ships entered the port, two of which were cruise ships. This is three fewer ships than the same month last year.
