(WTAQ-WLUK) — Several Northeast Wisconsin communities are receiving federal funds for cleanup and technical assistance at polluted brownfield sites.
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency announced $9.5 million to support the assessment and cleanup of brownfield sites in Wisconsin.
Calumet County will be receiving a $1 million grant to assess several sites across the Fox Valley, including Kaukauna’s Fox River Corridor, Brillion’s Iron Works Corridor and a vacant gas plant in Appleton.
The Green Bay Redevelopment Authority is also receiving $1 million. Those funds will be used to clean up the Badger Sheet Metal Site on Broadway.
Green Bay will be receiving a $500,000 community grant to conduct a dozen environmental site assessments, prepare cleanup plans and update the city’s brownfield site inventory.
Manitowoc will also be receiving $500,000 to clean up the River Point District and to support community outreach.
