DANE COUNTY, WI (WTAQ-WRN) — The Dane County Board of Supervisors on Thursday overwhelmingly rejected the appointment of state Representative Sheila Stubbs to direct the county’s human services department.
Stubbs spoke to reporters after only two supervisors voted to confirm her.
“Everything that this body has asked me to do, I’ve done it,” said Stubbs. “But this is a hostile body. And I want you to know this. At the end of the day, I am still Wisconsin State Representative Sheila Stuubs. I still represent the 77th assembly district. I will continue to fight for marginalized communities and anyone who reaches out to my office.”
Supervisors expressed concerns over Stubbs’ experience to head a department with about 800 employees, as well as over the way some of Stubbs’ supporters comported themselves. Stubbs said she’s faced unprecedented scrutiny.
County Exec Joe Parisi, who selected Stubbs for the job, is also critical of the way supervisors treated her.
