NEENAH, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – After nearly seven years of planning, the Neenah Police Department is getting ready to break ground on a new training facility.
The new facility will feature a firearms range and a larger gymnasium and defensive tactics room than the department currently uses.
Police Chief Aaron Olson says that the department currently goes offsite for training, but the new facility will bring those training opportunities right to their backyard.
He explained that the state of Wisconsin requires 24 hours of continued training for every officer each year. But Neenah plans to use the facility for many more hours.
“Our whole department goes through a lot of training every year. We have close to 100 hours per officer a year. So, we take training very seriously,” said Olson. “We have a great police department, and this is just another example of us being a really good police department.”
The facility is expected to be completed early next year.
