OSHKOSH, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Terry Culver was sentenced to three years in prison for stealing from a nursing home resident, and was ordered to pay $258.997.44 to the estate of Edith Koehler.
Culver, 63, was also placed on extended supervision for three years and then probation. Culver was also ordered to restitution to the Wisconsin Department of Revenue of $9,211 at Tuesday’s hearing by Judge Daniel Bissett. A jury previously convicted him of eight counts, including theft in a business setting, and fraud while rendering an income tax return.
Prosecutors say the victim was forced to move into a nursing home. Culver removed hundreds of thousands of dollars from the victim’s bank accounts and spent the money on home improvements and at bars, restaurants, and casinos as far off as Las Vegas, Nevada. The complaint also alleged that Culver sold multiple pieces of the victim’s real estate, took possession of the victim’s house through a quit claim deed, and filed false and fraudulent tax returns with the Department of Revenue for five years.
