(WTAQ-WLUK) — A New Holstein man died after crashing into a trail groomer while riding his snowmobile in the U.P.
Todd Lisowe, 42, was the first rider of three other Wisconsin snowmobilers on the trails between U.S. Highway 2 and Stager Lake Road in Michigan’s Iron County Thursday.
Just before noon, as the riders were headed from Big Bay in Marquette County to Pembine, Lisowe collided with a trail groomer that was actively grooming the trail.
The driver of the trail groomer, operated by the Chippewa Sno-Kats Snowmobile Club of Crystal Falls, was not hurt, nor was the passenger of the trail groomer.
Officials from the Michigan Department of Natural Resources say excessive speed is believed to be the cause of the crash.
