ONEIDA, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — When the call for supplies at a Green Bay homeless shelter went out, Oneida stores answered in three big ways.
In late November, the Safe Shelter on Green Bay’s west side, asked the community for support after completing its first year of operations.
That’s when Oneida Retail took action.
Public relations specialist, Phil Wisneski, said first came the Oneida Retail employee hygiene drive. Oneida Retail employees were asked to donate hygiene type items for shelter residents.
On Friday, employees donated more than 800 items to the shelter.
“We wanted to get the employees into the spirit of giving over the holidays,” Wisneski said. “We had a contest amongst the stores and which ever store donated the most, we’re going to give them a little treat as well.”
The winning store donated more than 600 items.
While the hygiene drive was going on, Oneida Retail decided to do more and asked for the children’s ages that were staying at the shelter.
With that information, employees donated toys for the children right before Christmas. Each child received at least one toy to help celebrate the holidays.
Thirdly, a donation of nearly $1,000 in cleaning supplies was donated to the shelter to help with cleaning, maintaining, and upkeep of the shelter. Items included Lysol, cleaning wipes, floor cleaner, bathroom cleaner, trash bags, laundry detergent, towels and more.
“Oneida Retail is proud to be able to assist the Safe Shelter,” said Oneida Retail general manager Debra Powless. “We look forward to continuing to support the local community.”
