GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Some Northeast Wisconsin kids are realizing just how valued they are after being paid a visit by a Green Bay Packers player Tuesday evening.
Packers wide receiver Randall Cobb visited with 20 Big Brothers Big Sisters matches before going on a tour of Lambeau Field with the kids and their mentors.
Cobb said he’s always excited to share his story with Green Bay kids.
“Anytime I can come and just be around the youth and be able to talk and be a model and tell my life story and how I got to the point where I am and just try to share advice and answer any questions and help out in any way I can.”
The executive director of BBBS Northeast Wisconsin said the opportunity is unique for any child in the community, but being at Lambeau truly makes the organization’s children feel valued and special.
“Coming to an event like this and seeing someone like Randall Cobb and having that person that you see on TV become real to them is really important,” said Executive Director Monica McClure. “And it makes them understand that he is very successful, but he took steps to get there to reach his goals. And regardless of what your goals are — as a kid, as a youth, as a teen — you can reach those goals.”
While the organization has matched hundreds of kids with mentors, McClure said they still have about 90 children waiting for Bigs in Brown, Door and Shawano counties.
