GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Green Bay Packers linebacker De’Vondre Campbell is looking to show his appreciation while also inspiring the next generation.
Campbell distributed school supplies at Howe Elementary in Green Bay Monday in collaboration with the Kids in Need Foundation.
The foundation supports some of the country’s most underserved schools, specifically those where at least 70% of students are eligible for free or reduced lunch.
Kids in Need reports that 91% of teachers in these underserved schools do not have the resources needed for second semester. Because of this, Campbell donated boxes upon boxes of essential school supplies.
Aside from providing notebooks and pencils, Campbell also hopes he gave some inspiration to students.
When answering the students’ questions, Campbell made sure to ask each student their name and say how happy he was to meet them.
He tells FOX 11 “Me being here, I know what it does for them — you know, just seeing someone like them and seeing someone that comes from a similar background, it’s important to them because I didn’t have that.”
Campbell, who holds two college degrees, said that he is living proof of the importance of education. While talking to students, he related his career in football to school, explaining how much time he spends studying the tapes and preparing for games — similar to how he used to study and prepare for tests.
Campbell also expressed his immense gratitude for the teachers.
“Basically, the future of our world is in your hands, and nobody’s going to give you the credit for it. It’s not an easy job.”
Campbell, a father of three children under the age of 8, says he knows how difficult it can be to remain patient with children at times. He is grateful for the teachers who show up each day to support students.
