ASHWAUBENON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – The sales are rolling in this Black Friday weekend. Shoppers went to Bay Park Square on a hunt for the best Black Friday bargains.
Kayla Knapp and her mom Carrie hunt for the best Black Friday deals every year.
“I’ll come back from college and several hour drives to spend time with my mom and hang out. We’ve been doing this I think since I was six so it’s been almost 20 years of doing this,” said Kayla.
Their shopping tradition hasn’t changed, but Kayla says the feel of Black Friday has.
“When I was younger I mean we would sit at door for hours or sit at the piles waiting for the bubble wrap to unwrap,” said Kayla.
Bay Park Square general manager Tracey Vassallo says Black Friday has gotten less busy, but the mall is expecting more in-person shoppers for the 2022 holiday shopping weekend.
“That nostalgia part of it, coming into the mall and seeing the Santa set and people lined up in the stores at the beginning of the day.”
Vassallo tells FOX 11 shopping in person has a lot of benefits.
“Being able to touch a product, to see its quality, to be able to try it on, to be able to try it right away, you don’t have to wait for it in the mail,” said Vassallo.
Little Fans by Aude’s Novelties started online and now is in its first storefront. Co-owner Chad Aude says it’s also the store’s first time welcoming shoppers on Black Friday.
“It’s kind of nervous and exciting at the same time. Don’t know what to expect, we don’t know if we brought enough in, not enough stuff. Then what kind of crowd we’ll get.”
Aude says he’d be thankful to see shoppers crowd his store during the holiday season.
Overall, he and other store owners say they hope people will continue to make in-person Black Friday shopping a long-standing tradition.
Many stores say they will continue Black Friday deals through the weekend.
