GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) — Green Bay police say that a report of an active shooter this morning at Green Bay East High School was a hoax.
Police say it was part of a series of hoaxes called in at multiple schools across the state, including another at South Park Middle School in Oshkosh.
Police were dispatched to Green Bay East High School after the report at around 10:04 this morning.
Upon entering the school, no evidence was found of an active shooter, or anyone injured.
“I would like to credit all local police agencies for their quick response today to East High School. This call highlights the many benefits of multi-jurisdictional training for active threat incidents, such as we’ve been doing at Bay Beach Amusement Park in recent months,” said Police Chief Chris Davis.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation says multiple school districts across the country have received similar threats.
“The FBI takes swatting very seriously because it puts innocent people at risk. While we have no information to indicate a specific and credible threat, we will continue to work with our local, state, and federal law enforcement partners to gather, share, and act upon threat information as it comes to our attention,” Leonard Peace, FBI Milwaukee, wrote in a press release. “We urge the public to remain vigilant, and report any and all suspicious activity and/or individuals to law enforcement immediately.”
In Oshkosh, police were called out at 10:26 AM to a report of an incident involving a weapon. A school resource officer on the scene was able to confirm there was no threat.
