APPLETON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — The Wisconsin Department of Justice is investigating an officer-involved shooting in Appleton.
The incident happened in the 1500 block of N. Birchwood Ave. Friday night just before 7:30.
Appleton residents received a notification on their phones at approximately 8:11 p.m., instructing them to stay inside and away from windows.
Officers responded to a domestic disturbance call.
When they got to the scene they confronted a man who was armed with a handgun. They tried negotiating with the man.
But, later they fired their weapons hitting the man.
He was taken to the hospital where he later died.
A firearm was recovered and body camera footage captured the incident.
No law enforcement officers were injured.
The involved officers from the Appleton police department have been placed on administrative leave, per department policy.
Residents received another alert at 8:22 p.m., informing them that the situation was resolved.
