The Milwaukee Brewers couldn’t finish off a sweep of the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park dropping the final game Sunday afternoon 7-2. Former Red Sox outfielder Hunter Renfro tormented his old team all weekend, capping the series with a 4 for 4 day at the plate including a two run homer that gave Milwaukee an early lead. Aaron Ashby got through four scoreless innings but it all came unglued in a five run fifth with all five runs unearned. Willy Adames tried to get a force out at second base but Kolton Wong couldn’t handle the tough chance and was charged with an error. That’s when Boston doubled down, hitting four consecutive two out, run scoring doubles. The Red Sox tacked on two more in the sixth off reliever Hoby Milner. The Brewers pounded out 11 hits for the game but managed just the two runs. Despite the loss, Milwaukee took two of three and stand 57-45 with 60 games to go in the season. Their lead in the NL Central was trimmed to three games as St. Louis defeated Washington 5-0. The Brewers have an off day Monday and continue the road trip in Pittsburgh Tuesday night. Freddy Peralta is expected to rejoin the club at PNC Park after spending a majority of the season on the injured list. The Major League Baseball trading deadline is Tuesday afternoon and it will be interesting to see if President of Baseball Operations David Stearns makes any moves for the stretch run.
