OSHKOSH, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Some damage was reported at the site of EAA AirVenture following a thunderstorm that came through Oshkosh Saturday evening.
No injuries were reported, said Dick Knapinski, EAA director of communications. However, there are reports of property damage.
Some aircraft on Boeing Plaza were damaged. One EAA-owned aircraft was flipped onto its nose near the EAA museum, despite being well-tied down.
Knapinski said other aircraft parked on the field seem to have weathered the storm well. He credits the aircraft owners who secured their airplanes after arriving on the grounds.
Several people sheltered at the EAA Aviation Museum during the storm. Others sheltered in place.
Some trees and branches were down in the drive-in campgrounds. There was some vehicle damage from falling branches.
The wind caused some damage to the main gate of the AirVenture grounds. Several smaller exhibit tents were blown down.
EAA will be sending trucks out on Sunday morning to help remove areas of standing water left after the storm.
The National Weather Service was on the EAA grounds during the storm. It allowed early notification of the storm’s path.
EAA Airventure 2022 begins on Monday and lasts through July 31.
