GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Gas prices are inching up and up towards the five dollar a gallon mark, a price never before seen on Wisconsin gas pumps.
Mackenzie Schneider says she’s monitoring her expenses just to make sure she can fill up her tank.
Mackenzie Schneider says she’s monitoring her expenses just to make sure she can fill up her tank.
“Planning when I go to the pump, if there’s ever a good time,” Schneider said.
The average price of gasoline in Green Bay is $4.78 per gallon, according to AAA. It’s something Schneider never thought she would see.
“Usually about only $42, $43 maybe. Now obviously we’re at $45 already and still going up so, yeah,” said Schneider. “Probably now it’s going to be $50, $55 so it’s really different from what it used to be.”
But look at this, her total was just over $63.
It’s something Carrie Gatske understands all too well.
“A lot of my check goes to pay for gas,” said Gatske.
She says usually $25 does the trick to fill up her tank.
Now it’s double that at $50.
But she has her mind on others who have it worse.
“It’s really hard, especially when you travel a lot for work and stuff,” said Gatske. “It probably costs people so much to pay for gas.”
Mike Rouse of Green Bay is monitoring his spending habits with a close eye.
“I watch what I buy. Food, everything. I’m very different now,” said Rouse.
He can’t wait for prices to eventually come down.
With no indication of when that could be, he’s also worrying for others.
“Not only for me, but for a lot of people. There’s people that are just living,” said Rouse. “And to see all this going on, wondering how they’re going to make it.”
He says he’s never paid so much for gas than he is right now.
