GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) – The Mason Street Bridge has malfunctioned after attempting to close after a ship went through this afternoon.
The bridge is currently closed to traffic. It is unknown when it will be repaired and traffic will be allowed to go over the bridge.
Crews are on scene inspecting and attempting to repair the problem.
Mark Kantola with the Wisconsin Department of Transportation tells WTAQ the malfunction is in the bridge’s computer system that governs the process to open and close the bridge to ship traffic.
“We cannot let vehicles cross the bridge until we can identify the computer system malfunction and determine that it’s operating correctly,” Kantola told WTAQ.
Police are asking drivers to use Walnut St., Dousman St., Interstate 43 or State Trunk Highway 172 to cross the Fox River.
The issue appeared just after routine cleaning wrapped up.
WTAQ’s Rob Sussman contributed to this report.
