GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) — Artstreet organizers say they’re moving the annual August event from its longtime home in Downtown Green Bay to Ashwaubomay Park in Ashwaubenon because they’ve outgrown the space. Mosaic Arts Board Member Carol Faltynski says that they want to grow the event, and that growth wasn’t possible in downtown Green Bay.
“There just isn’t an area in downtown that allows us to expand to the size we need to be able to grow the event,” Faltynski tells WTAQ.
Ashwaubomay Park offers 84 acres of space for the group, allowing them to do things like invite master sandsculpture artists, who will make huge sculptures out of five tons of sand.
“That’s one of the things we’re going to be doing that we can only do with the space we have at Ashwaubomay Park,”
Faltynski said.
Faltynski says the festival’s footprint has shrank in recent years due to changes in downtown Green Bay, and some artists have complained about the buildings creating ‘wind tunnels’.
Artstreet has been held since 1982.
