APPLETON, WI (WTAQ) – The Appleton School Board has begun the initial phase of their search for a new superintendent, but they’re asking the public for their opinions.
“We are looking for input from residents of the school district. People can weigh in on attributes or qualifications they think would be important in the next superintendent,” said Board President Kay Eggert. “We feel it’s very important. The school board wants to hear from the community – what does the community view as important for the next leader of the school district?”
A survey is already live on the district’s website, and people can also request paper copies.
“We’ll have a number of focus groups, and the community can attend those focus groups. There will be a facilitator to lead discussions and gather information that will be shared with the school board,” Eggert said.
The first of those focus groups is tonight, beginning virtually at 7 p.m.
The district is also working with a consultant from the Wisconsin Association of School Boards to assist in compiling a ‘superintendent profile,’ and begin a search for the right candidates. That consultant will create a report to deliver to the full board.
“The next step with posting a job description or posting the position – the full board will be involved in all steps of the process,” Eggert said.
While the process is now underway, Eggert says work on the next phase will begin on January 5th, following a holiday break. The survey is available until midnight the evening of January 4th.
