OSHKOSH, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A formal challenge has been filed against the awarding of a $6 billion contract for mail trucks to Oshkosh Corp.
Workhorse Group, a company based in Ohio, is challenging Oshkosh Defense being awarded the contract in February for the “Next Generation Delivery Vehicle” for the U.S. Postal Service.
The details are currently sealed in court.
This is USPS’s first large-scale fleet upgrade in three decades. Production of the new trucks and their road debut are both expected to happen in the second half of 2023.
“Workhorse’s Complaint contains confidential and proprietary source selection and proposal information, the public release of which would cause severe competitive harm. The record in this bid protest proceeding will contain—or is likely to contain—confidential source selection information, as well as confidential and proprietary information of other offerors who submitted proposals during the subject procurement,” a document states.
Oshkosh Defense’s Tom Quigley, Vice President and General Manager, Government Programs, provided the following statement to FOX 11:
“While bid protests are a normal part of the government contracting process, we do not comment on such proceedings. We are proud that the USPS selected Oshkosh Defense to fulfill the needs of the NGDV program and we look forward to getting these highly capable vehicles into the hands of mail carriers. The NGDV contract with Oshkosh Defense includes both zero-emission battery electric vehicles (BEV) and fuel-efficient low-emission internal combustion engine vehicles (ICE) and we have the resources and capabilities to deliver any mix the USPS orders,” Quigley said.
