APPLETON, WI (WTAQ) – More pre-pandemic activities are coming back, and soon the Old Glory Honor Flights out of NE Wisconsin will join them.
The day trips take military veterans from this area to Washington, free of charge, for a tour of the war memorials.
“We’ll go to the World War Two Memorial, the Vietnam Wall, and the Korean War Memorial.”
Old Glory Honor Flight Executive Director Diane MacDonald says another highlight is a stop at Arlington Cemetery to see the changing of the guard at the tomb of the unkown soldier.
“Just to make sure those veterans get the tour of honor that they so deserve.”
MacDonald says flights were grounded in the fall of 2019. They’re scheduled to resume August 31st, September 16th, and October 20th.
“Our goal is to get 300 vets out to Washington D.C. this year…and we’re excited to do that.”
As far as COVID goes….MacDonald says they’re ready to make whatever accommodations are needed to do their flights safely.
“We’re going to follow whatever the CDC recommends, and what those guidelines are, what the rules are.”
These activities are through your donations and a major fundraiser is coming up August 28th at Fox Cities Stadium. More details on that, how a veteran can sign up for a future flight, and volunteer opportunities can be found at Old Glory Honor Flight-dot-Org or the Old Glory Honor Flight Facebook page.
