OSHKOSH, WI (WTAQ) – Another drive-thru job fair was held in the Oshkosh Chamber of Commerce parking lot on Thursday for people hoping to get back to work as the pandemic seems to be slowing down.
Drive-thru job fairs are a simple, contactless way for people to get information on dozens of local companies that are hiring right now.
“This is one way we can still get the word out about those jobs without people feel hesitant about coming in and getting the information,” said Bobbi Miller with the Fox Valley Workforce Development Board. “Gives them the ability to get the information, do a little research on these companies, and then just do the follow-up applications.”
Miller believes similar options might stick around for good, but likely evolve along the way.
“We might be doing them in the future, it might pivot and take a little different format. One of our partners is doing a virtual job fair in early May,” Miller told WTAQ News. “We’ll continue to adapt to what job seekers and the business community are telling us.”
Typical, in-person job fairs might not be too far off either. Miller thinks they could begin by the end of the year.
“Don’t hold me to this, but I am looking forward to possibly this fall. That just depends on a number of things pandemic-related and vaccine-related,” Miller said.
