GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) — There is a rat problem in Green Bay.
Orkin, the pest control company has named the city as #40 on its list of the rattiest cities in America.
Alderman Chris Wery says it’s an issue the city has been tackling for a few years now.
“A few years ago we noticed more sightings and reports of rats,” Wery told WTAQ. “And so, the city and the county combined to try and eradicate it as much as we could.”
The city and county partnered to distribute rat traps across the community. The city hired a new building inspector with the sole task of dealing with rat issues.
Those traps are still available for property owners to pick up at the Neville Museum.
Wery says complaints have fallen over the past year or so by around half. Even so, Green Bay climbed from the 58th rattiest city to the 40th in the latest Orkin list.
Chicago, Illinois was listed as #1 on the list for the sixth consecutive year.
