DE PERE, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – The West De Pere and Gillett School Districts announced Monday they are moving to all-virtual learning due to COVID-19.
In a letter sent to families and staff, West De Pere Superintendent Dennis Krueger says the transition is due to unsafe behaviors leading to a community spread of the virus and a difficulty maintaining staffing levels within the district.
Remote learning will begin Thursday, and the district’s goal is to return to in-person learning beginning Oct. 19.
The move back to in-person learning will depend on the community health situation, according to the letter.
In a Facebook post, the Gillett School District says its decision is based on the number of COVID-19 cases within district buildings and an increased spread in the community.
The move to all-virtual learning will begin Tuesday and will continue through Oct. 12.
The decision means all athletics will be paused during the time period, according to the district.
The district says if COVID-19 cases have been reduced after the 14-day virtual period, in-person learning can be resumed beginning Oct. 13.
