ASHWAUBENON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — There’s a new concert venue coming to Ashwaubenon.
The former Gordmans building is set to be turned into the new Epic Events Center after the village board approved plans this week.
The indoor concert venue could fit up to 2,000 people.
“I think the inside is what’s going to be the most exciting part. We have a very big stage, we have an upper level mezzanine for viewing, so that would be more like a VIP area, there will be a bar up there too. And then downstairs we also have the ADA viewing deck which is right up front by the stage,” Epic Event Center general manager Melissa Toonen said.
The event center is geared towards music lovers of all kinds, but will also host other types of entertainment.
While in person concerts aren’t happening right now, concert venue managers are looking ahead.
They say that they can have events that encourage more social distancing if need be.
“Everything is kind of up in the air right now, we definitely are kind of just planning things out right now. We might end up, if social distancing is still necessary, we’ll just start doing more comedy shows, corporate events, things where we can work through this,” Toonen said.
Village of Ashwaubenon Director of Community Development Aaron Schuette says he hopes this venue will attract more traffic to the area.
“We want to make sure people who come to Ashwaubenon have the opportunities to be entertained, see what we have to offer here, and hopefully set up their own business, come here to live, or really just come to our events and concerts we have here,” Schuette said.
Building plans will be submitted for approval next.
Toonen says they hope to start construction in the fall.
The Epic Event Center hopes to have the venue open to the public next year.
