ASHWAUBENON, WI (WTAQ) — Green Bay Packers fans enjoy perhaps the most intimate access to their favorite players in the entire National Football League, if not pro sports as a whole.
With fan friendly preseason events, like the bike rally, preseason games, and fan-accessible practices canceled as a consequence of the COVID-19 pandemic, some fans have resorted to peaking under the tarp at Ray Nitschke Field for a chance at seeing the team at work.
“Me and my son wanted to come check it out and see what we could spy underneath the tents and see what we could see of Packers practice today,” said Nick, a Green Bay resident standing outside of the field with his son. “When I was young, like my son’s age, I participated in the bike riding extravaganza that was once here, so, given this year’s a little different with that not being here, we kind of thought we’d check this out.”
Some people traveled from hours away just to be around the team. Bill and Jessica Ruef traveled down from Boulder Junction, in Vilas County, to visit Titletown for the weekend.
“We just have a little three day vacation here in town, but we thought we’d take a walk around the area and check out what’s happening,” Bill told WTAQ. “Just to see if there’s anything going on here.”
Jessica was just glad everyone’s trying to stay safe amidst COVID-19.
“I miss football,” she said. “I just want it to happen safely.”
Only credentialed media members are allowed inside to watch practices.
