ASHWAUBENON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Not many know what the back to school shopping season is going to look like this year – not retailers, parents, students, nor teachers.
As school districts around northeast Wisconsin are release their plans for fall, classroom supplies are in question.
Appleton Schools sent a letter to families saying, ” During the month of July we typically share our school supply lists, meet and greet dates, and onsite registration opportunities so our families can plan and get ready for the upcoming school year. As we plan for the fall, we will be placing those lists and dates on hold until our Safe School Reentry Plan is released at the end of July.”
Some parents are wondering whether to buy school supplies without official lists.
In Little Chute, Becky Pamperin tells FOX she will wait.
“We are just going to wait we’re gonna wait it out until we get the list from the school I’m pretty sure that the lists are going to differ from previous years.”
Pamperin says kids might have to have all their own supplies.
“Maybe some more items will be included due to kids not sharing different things maybe more paper supplies.”
Tom Sieber owns the School House supply store in Ashwaubenon.
He tells FOX 11 it’s too early to know what students and teachers will need.
“Especially if they have to be online, less of the traditional supplies coming through. They might not use a full notebook they might use one from last year. Not use as many pencils because they will be doing half online and half in-person potentially. So we have to wait to see what the school district decides and we will be ready.”
Sieber says like any other year it’s important to get your school supplies as soon as your school releases a list, to ensure that your child gets what they need on time.
Uncertainty will remain until schools release official back to school plans.
The state says it would like districts to have in-person classes, as long as it can be done safely.
The State of Wisconsin’s full reopening guidelines were released in late June.
