FIFE’S FURBALLS! MEET GUM!
AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION THROUGH APPLE VALLEY PIT CREW!!!!

While street feeding down in Houston this past December, I came across a group of dogs, one of which stood out from all the rest. He had virtually no hair and walked right up to me looking for some love and food. Luckily I was able to offer him both. The woman who I was helping feed, told me he was known to the locals as Gum (due to his skin feeling like old gum stuck under a desk). She had been feeding him at this same spot for 6 months, reaching out to everyone she knew trying to get him into home. I knew from the moment I met him I had to take him home with me. That night he slept in bed with me in my hotel room and you could just tell it was the first night of good, worry free sleep he had gotten in a long time. The next day we made the long trek back to Wisconsin and began his journey to finding his forever family. We got him to a vet as soon as we got back to help get him on the mend. He had demodex mange, a double ear infection, and urinary tract infection and was Heartworm Positive. Fast forward 6 months and alot of his hair has grown back but sadly Gum is still Heartworm Positive. We just know that this second time will work! We are currently looking for Gum’s forever home (it will be a foster to adopt situation until he has been cleared of Heartworm). Gum would do best as the only pet in the home. That’s not to say he can’t have any doggy friends, he just prefers they come hang out for a little bit and then go back to their place! Available for adoption now! You can find Apple Valley Pit Crew on Facebook too! Click here!
When GUM was first rescued, these are a few photos of the condition he was in.
