Green Bay and the Resch Center will host the first Horizon League men's basketball tournament this weekend and the field is now set after on-campus first round games Tuesday night. Defending champion Valparaiso, the number 4 seed, defeated UIC 73-63 behind 29 points from Alec Peters. The Crusaders will meet Milwaukee in the quarterfinal round Friday night. The 5th seeded Panthers knocked out #9 Detroit 83-63 as Jordan Aaron scored 16 points. Former Pulaski High School standout Cody Wichman added 13. Oakland, the 6 seed, needed overtime to beat 7th seeded Youngstown State 96-92.
The tournament schedule will have Oakland against Wright State, the three seed who earned a first round bye, in the opening game Friday night at 6:00 PM, followed by Milwaukee and Valparaiso at 8:30. Second seeded Celveland State will get the Oakland-Wright State winner in the first semifinal game Saturday night at 6:00 PM and the top seeded Green Bay Phoenix will play the Milwaukee-Valparaiso winner at 8:30. If the Phoenix wins, they'll host the Horizon League championship game next Tuesday night at the Resch Center. If Green Bay falls, the highest remaining seed will host the title game.
