UNDATED (WSAU-Wheeler News) Cody Cousins is due in court today. He's the Purdue University engineering student accused of killing fellow student and West Bend native Andrew Boldt on Tuesday. The 23-year-old Cousins, of Centerville Ohio, is being held without bond on a preliminary murder charge.
Police said Cousins apparently targeted the 21-year-old Boldt, but nobody has said why -- and both families are trying to come to grips with what happened. Last night, about 150 people attended a prayer service at the Boldt family's Catholic church in West Bend. Most family members didn't show up. The Reverend Nathan Reesman said they wanted to pray in private for now. Reesman said Boldt was just like the rest of his family -- reserved, police, friendly, and bright.
Authorities said Cousins stepped into a classroom, shot Boldt while he was serving as a teaching assistant, and left. The suspect turned himself in a short time later. Both were seniors, and Purdue is not commenting on Cousins' future status as a student.
While last night's service was going on in Wisconsin, Purdue authorities responded to a report of another shooting -- this one in a housing complex that has students with families. Police later said they couldn't find a problem there, and there was no threat to the campus.
