Dog abuse case might not go to trial

WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAU) -- The woman charged with poisoning and stabbing her ex-boyfriend’s dog is spending the weekend considering her options.

21-year-old Sean Janas was in Marathon County court for a final pre-trial conference Friday. She is accused of torturing and killing Mary, the labrador-shepherd cross 2012 and documenting her hatred for the dog in a diary.

Janas’ attorney John Wallace asked the court about how defense expert witnesses can be handled during the March 17th trial. He also told the court his client is considering possible solutions to end the case. Wallace told Judge Greg Grau that Janas wants to use the weekend to think things over, which may mean a plea agreement that would could keep the case from going to trial. Judge Grau gave the defense until March 6th to decide what, if any, change will be made before trial.

The alleged abuse involved forcing the dog to ingest bleach and drain cleaner, and then stabbing it to death. The case has drawn reactions from animal lovers around the world.
