Fiers burns the Cubs

Mike Fiers put on a show at Wrigley Field Thursday afternoon, striking out a career high 14 Chicago Cubs over just six innings in Milwaukee's 6-2 victory that earned a split in the four games series.   Called up from Triple A Nashville after Matt Garza went on the disabled list, Fiers put together his second strong start in a row.  This one bordered on dominance.  He struck out the side three times and became the first Brewers pitcher to record 14 strikeouts in six frames on the road.   Fiers was also the last pitcher to record a double digit stikeout game, doing it during the 2012 season.   He allowed only three hits and left with a 5-0 lead to improve to 2-1.  Scooter Gennett got the offense going with a two run double in the first off Edwin Jackson.  Khris Davis hit his 20th home run of the season.   The Cubs finally got on the board when Chris Valaika brought home two runs with a single in the 7th off reliever Zach Duke.   Mark Reynolds gave the Brewers some insurance with another solo shot, his 21st of the season to close out the scoring.    Milwaukee (67-55) continues it's road trip with a weekend series against the Los Angeles Dodgers in a matchup of division leaders.  The Brewers will send Jimmy Nelson to the mound against Zack Greinke.  Pre-game coverage begins at 8:35 PM on WTAQ.
