ELLSWORTH, WI (WTAQ) - A 20-year-old western Wisconsin man died Sunday, after he was thrown from a car by a suspected drunk driver.
Nicholas Rhiel of Ellsworth was found unconscious early Saturday in a roadway near a residential intersection in Ellsworth. He was flown to Regions' Hospital in St. Paul, where he died.
His father told Twin Cities' TV station KARE that Rhiel was pursuing a college degree in criminal justice.
He also worked with a pit crew at the Pierce County Fair's demolition derby, where a moment of silence was held in Rhiel's honor.
The vehicle driver is in the Pierce County Jail awaiting charges. The incident remains under investigation.
