Carly Rae Jepsen
has given her blessing to
, who is stepping into the role of Cinderella on Broadway.
Carly, who previously rocked the glass slippers in the Broadway classic, took to Twitter to congratulate the first African American to portray the title role in a Broadway production of Rodgers and Hammerstein's Cinderella . She takes over the role September 9 at New York City's Broadway Theater.
"Congrats to @KekePalmer ... I hear she will be our new Cinderella and I couldn't be more thrilled for her. @cinderellabway," she posted to Twitter . Carly left the show earlier this summer.
Keke, 21, will be making her professional stage debut in the iconic role. Palmer will be the fourth actress to play the part in this new Broadway revival, following the Tony-nominated Laura Osnes , Paige Faure and the "Call Me Maybe" star.
Her previous acting experience includes roles in Barbership 2: Back in Business , Akeela and the Bee , and her role as Chili in CrazySexyCool: The TLC Story . She is also host of the BET talk show Just Keke. She also released two albums, 2007's So Uncool and a self-titled 2012 EP.
