LITTLE CHUTE, WI (WTAQ) - The Fox-Wisconsin Heritage Parkway is looking to renovate several lock tender houses along the Fox River.
The group will aim to renovate three of those homes, which helped boats and shipping around the clock on the Fox River until the 1980s, in Little Chute and Combined Locks.
Fox-Wisconsin Heritage Parkway's first task is a $150,000 project to renovate the inside of a lock tender house in Little Chute.
President Candice Mortara tells FOX 11 they want to renovate them to use as vacation rental properties. Mortara says with the reopening of many of the locks along the Fox River in recent years, kayakers and boaters are interested in renting properties along the river.
So far, the group has raised nearly $2,800 toward the project. Anyone interested in donating money or time for the project can visit their website at heritageparkway.org.
