The X Factor resumed the audition process Wednesday night in various cities. Simon Cowell , Demi Lovato , Kelly Rowland and Paulina Rubio were on hand to judge the contestants.

Here are the highlights of Wednesday's episode:

Emery Kelly , a 15-year-old student, performed "I Won't Give Up" by Jason Mraz . Simon didn't care for the song choice but he believed Emery was an "unpolished diamond." The teen received a "yes" from all four judges.

Khaya Cohen , also 15, got off to a bad start with her rendition of the Dreamgirls track "Love You I Do." Simon cut her off, saying that it wasn't working for him. Kelly encouraged her to try another song, and Khaya tackled "I Put a Spell on You." Demi and Paulina both couldn't believe a voice that beautiful came out of someone so young and small. Simon said it reminded him of a mix between Amy Winehouse and Adele . Khaya moved on to the next round.

Joseph Tolve , 19, had a high-pitched voice, which he said was hoarse. Simon offered him water, but that didn't change the sound of Joseph's voice. He squeaked through Demi's hit "Skyscraper," after which Kelly suggested he do voiceover work for Sesame Street . Joseph was sent packing.

David Gray , 31, told the judges he was auditioning out of love for his girlfriend, but he bombed with Usher 's "Nice & Slow." Immediately afterward, the girlfriend, Lauren Waguespack , walked onto the stage and sang Katy Perry' s "Teenage Dream." Simon put a stop to that, at which point David returned and proposed to her. She said yes. Neither of them will have to worry about The X Factor interfering with wedding planning.

Nineteen-year-old Wesley Mountain was completely smitten with Kelly, approaching her and holding her hand. It turned out Wesley has talent: he showed off a smooth voice with Hunter Hayes ' "Wanted." Demi confessed she thought he was creepy at first, but she ended up liking what she heard. Simon said as Wesley sang, it was as if he was sending the message, "I want to eat you." Paulina suggested he put his feelings for Kelly aside. We'll see Wesley again.

Rickey Clark Jr. , 19, didn't win over the judges with his version of Stevie Wonder 's "Superstition," but as he exited the stage Kelly chased after him, wiped away his tears and gave him words of encouragement.

Female football player Lorie Moore belted out Whitney Houston 's "I Have Nothing." Kelly said she was expecting a crazy audition and was pleasantly surprised. Simon added that Moore is "very, very good." Demi and Paulina were not present, so Lorie advanced with a "yes" from only two judges.

Demi rejoined the panel when a formerly-engaged couple who called their act Second Hand High performed an original rap that was beyond absurd. The female half of the duo kept repeating the lyrics, "Better ask him to dance!" Kelly got up from her seat, busted a move, and even asked Simon to dance:.  Simon rejected her request, and told the couple they should rename themselves "Deluded." Kelly, however, praised the chorus of the song, and she wasn't being sarcastic. Ultimately, Second Hand High was turned away. However, the show subsequently aired a mini-music video of the coaches singing the song.

Thursday night, The X Factor wraps up auditions and the coaches find out which of the four categories -- the boys, the girls, the singers over the age of 25, and the groups -- they'll mentor. The one-hour episode begins at 8 p.m. Eastern time on Fox.
