TEMPE, AZ (WTAQ) - The Wisconsin Badgers dropped its first game of the season, falling to Arizona State 32-30 Saturday.
The Badgers were poised to take the lead with seconds left, when quarterback Joel Stave carried the ball to the 15-yard line without being hit. With seconds left and time running out, Arizona State players lay on top of the ball and referees did not reset the football.
Despite the bizarre ending, running back Melvin Gordon rushed for 193 yards on 15 carries, including an 80-yard touchdown to start the second half.
Stave struggled in his first road game of the season, completing 15-of-30 for 187 yards and a touchdown.
Penalties hurt the Badgers: Six in total for 76 yards, compared to Arizona State’s three for 15 yards.
