The X Factor continued its two-night season premiere Thursday on Fox with more auditions, this time in Denver, Colorado, and Long Island, New York. Simon Cowell and Demi Lovato were again joined at the judges' table by newcomers Kelly Rowland and Paulina Rubio .
Here are the highlights of the episode:
Twenty-one-year-old model Yosselin Marquez was an utter disaster. She made a terrible first impression by forgetting Simon's name. Yosselin then warbled the lyrics to Rihanna 's "Only Girl (In The World)," which she read off her smartphone. It was a resounding "no" from all four judges.
Rylie Brown , a 15-year-old girl from Missouri, stumbled with the words to Zedd 's "Clarity," but she recovered and advanced to the next round. Simon overlooked Rylie's mistake, saying it didn't matter since she has such a wonderful voice. He called her "one to watch" in the competition.
Denver's own Jeff Brinkman , who runs a doggy daycare center, channeled his inner Joe Cocker with "You Are So Beautiful." Kelly thought he was sincere, and Paulina loved his raspy voice. Jeff earned a "yes" from each panelist.
Jorge Pena , an ice cream man, offended Demi by calling her "woman," in an attempt to be endearing. She looked past his behavior because she felt he showed talent with the Spanish song "Amame." Jorge expressed his appreciation to her by winking, which again turned off Demi. Paulina instructed Jorge in Spanish to change his attitude. Despite all that, Jorge advanced.
Fifty-six-year-old stock trader Russ Pouliot claimed to have had professional singing lessons, but he flopped with Elvis Presley 's "Can't Help Falling in Love." Simon thought it sounded as if Russ was drowning. Demi said if Russ had a British accent, his vocals would have been similar to that of Simon's -- that is, if Simon actually sang in public. To prove the point, Kelly grabbed a microphone and gave it to The X Factor creator, who obliged the crowd briefly. Demi laughed, "I was right!"
Denise Weeks , a 41-year-old subway singer and mother of two, was abruptly stopped by Simon shortly after she launched into Whitney Houston 's "Greatest Love Of All." He felt it was too rushed. She tried again, this time winning over the four judges.
The X Factor will air more auditions next Wednesday night.
