OSHKOSH, WI (WTAQ) - United Auto Workers Local 578 has voted to reopen contract talks again with Oshkosh Defense.
The military vehicle maker is looking for a five-year contract extension to gain a competitive edge when it bids on a new $13 billion contract.
The union’s current contract expires in 2016.
Oshkosh wants an extension agreement by the end of September.
Late last week, Oshkosh Defense sent a letter saying they will move production of the new Joint Light Tactical Vehicle in order to win the contract if UAW workers don’t agree on an extension.
The JLTV is replacing the Humvee.
The union and Oshkosh have been down this road before. Contract extension talks ended in July with no agreement.
