8-year-old Appleton girl injured after being struck by vehicle

APPLETON, WI (WTAQ) - Scary moments in Appleton Monday morning after an 8-year-old girl is hit by a vehicle while she walked to school.

"The driver moved over to the right hand lane to continue northbound on North Mason Street and did not see the student in the crosswalk," says Appleton Police Sgt. Dave Lund. "The 8-year-old suffered some minor injuries, but did have some scrapes and bruises from being hit by the vehicle."

The accident occured at North Mason Street and West Spring Street around 8:10 a.m.

A 50-year-old Appleton woman, who was driving that vehicle, was cited for failure to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk.

Lund says the accident could've ended much worse, and serves as a reminder to all drivers.

"This is the reason why we tell people you need to slow down, and you need to be looking around to your right and left so that the students that are coming to school can do so safely," says Lund.
