It's been a week since the MTV Video Music Awards, and people are still talking about the fact that, as One Direction took the stage to present an award, Taylor Swift turned to Selena Gomez and, reportedly, said, "Shut the f***k up." Everyone assumes that she was directing her comment to her ex, Harry Styles , but now we've got proof that that's not the case at all, thanks to Ed Sheeran.
During a Q&A on Friday that a fan captured on video and uploaded to YouTube, Ed was asked about the notorious comment. "I know what she said," Ed told the crowd. As he tells it, Taylor was simply reacting to something Selena said to her.
"Selena said to her, 'I think Miley's gonna win the award,'" explained Ed, referring to the category of Best Pop Video, which both Selena and Miley were up for. "And Taylor said, 'Oh, shut the f***k up!'" In other words, Taylor was expressing her disbelief that Miley would win -- not dissing Harry. And in fact, she was right: Selena won, for "Come and Get It."
As the audience laughed, Ed added, "And so that's what it was." He also said that Taylor seemed aware that she shouldn't have said what she did. "She wrote me straight afterwards and she was like 'I think I messed up, '" he reveals.
