GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) - The state Department of Transportation says work on repairing the sagging Leo Frigo Bridge will begin Friday.
The bridge, which carries I-43 over the Fox River, has been closed to traffic since September 25th, when a dip was found in the roadway.
DOT officials say one of the bridge's piers - Pier 22 - had sunk about two feet due to corrosive soil surrounding it.
Governor Scott Walker formally signed the bid approval to the Waukesha-based firm Zenith Tech. They submitted the low bid of around $7.7 million to repair the bridge.
Zenith Tech will have to install new cement supports around five piers. Their contract says the bridge must reopen by January 17.
