The first WIAA champions of the school year were crowned at University Ridge Golf Course in Madison Tuesday at the state golf tournament. Hartland Arrowhead captured the Division 1 team title with a score of 638, the third best winning score in the tournament's history. Verona, led by Division 1 medalist Jessica Reinecke finished second, 10 shots back. Reinecke finished at 1 under par 143 over the two day meet. Green Bay Notre Dame came in fifth place as a team, led by senior Jessie Staed who medaled with a 155, good for a tie for 6th place. Jessie's sister Jacqui Staed wound up 16th at 164. Green Bay Preble junior Maddie Neumeier shot 156 to finish in a tie for 8th and De Pere sophomore Megan Growt fired a 169. In Division 2, Madison Edgewood took the team title for the 12th time in the past 13 years. Edgewood's Caroline Lake had the best score of the event at -3, 141 for medalist honors. Abby DuFrense of Marinette was tied for second individually at 157 and Luxemburg-Casco's Kate Wurflova finished tied for 4th at 162.
