Green Bay Packers' LB Matthews reportedly breaks thumb in Lions victory

GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) - Green Bay Packers' linebacker Clay Matthews may or may not miss any playing time, after he reportedly broke a thumb in Sunday's 22-9 victory over Detroit.

Matthews was injured when he sacked Lions' quarterback Matthew Stafford at the end of the 3rd quarter.

Depending on the extent of the injury, Matthews might be able to keep playing with a protective club -- just like former Packers Nick Barnett and Cullen Jenkins did when they broke bones in their hands and-or wrists.

Two other outside linebackers had career days Sunday for the Pack.

Mike Neal, who still doubles at defensive end, got his first start at outside linebacker opposite Matthews -- and he had 6 tackles and a sack. Neal started in place of second-year pro Nick Perry, who responded with two sacks and a forced fumble, and a total of 5 tackles off the bench.

Meanwhile, we're not sure about the status of inside linebacker Brad Jones, who hurt a hamstring against the Lions. His replacement, Robert Francois, tore an right Achilles tendon and is reportedly out for the season.
