Phoenix women reload

The Green Bay Phoenix Women open camp with a lot of questions heading into the season.  Who will start after graduating five seniors, four of whom led GB to their 15th straight Horizon League title and an NCAA tournament berth?  Adrian Ritchie, Sarah Eichler, Lydia Bauer and Stephanie Sension were all starters for head coach Kevin Borseth.  Who will score?  75 percent of the team's offensive production also graduated.  Can a rare rebuilding team keep the conference championship streak alive?  Borseth was upbeat at a media session after the squad's second practice on Tuesday. His line to the team was, "Just because, doesn't mean."   Extending that success won't come simply because the team has had success, "We have to work for it", said Borseth.  Senior point guard Megan Luken is the only returning starter.   Borseth says this team may grow more by the end of the season than any other he's had.   Green Bay opens exhibtion play Saturday, October 16 against St. Cloud State.

Senior Sam Zastrow of Algoma was charged in June with operating while intoxicated.  She was cited for having a blood alcohol content of 0.15.  The legal limit is 0.08.   Zastrow pleaded not guilty last month and will have another court appearance on October 16.  Interim Athletic Director Dan McIver issued a statement saying, "We are aware of and monitoring the situation involving Sam Zastrow.  We will have no further comment until the legal process has been finalized."  If convicted, aside from the court penalty, Zastrow could face a suspension from the team amounting to 10 percent of the season or three games.
