MADISON, WI (WTAQ) - A Madison man will spend seven years in prison for killing a 20-year-old man in a drunk driving crash.
44-year-old Lawren Prisk was driving 100 miles an hour when he rear-ended a car near Sun Prairie almost 15 months ago. A 24-year-old Sun Prairie woman suffered serious injuries after driving the car that Prisk hit.
Her passenger, Conor Dunleavy of Madison, was killed.
Prosecutors said there was no evidence that Prisk slowed down before the crash -- and his blood alcohol level at the time was 0.18, over twice the legal limit. Authorities said Prisk was bar-hopping at the time.
He was convicted of causing death and injury by drunk driving.
Defense lawyer Julius Kim asked that his client get three years in prison. Dane County Circuit Judge Nicholas McNamara rejected that.
As he put it, "If we lived in a society where life could be taken with practically no consequence, that would be dangerous."
