MADISON, Wis. (WSAU) -- The next deadline to sign up for Wisconsin's Do Not Call List is approaching.
The Department of Agriculture, Trade, and Consumer Protection officials maintain a list of phone numbers that they distribute quarterly to registered telemarketing firms, so that marketers do not call you. DATCP Spokesman Jerad Albrecht says you need to sign up every two years for now. "Every quarter we cut off the list and send it off to the telemarketers so they have a fresh list of who not to call, and we do that four times a year so they're always up to date."
Any number can be registered for the no call list so long as it's not a business number, and you do need to refresh that listing every two years according to Albrecht. "For the time being, unless they change state law, it is still every two years that people need to register or reregister their numbers for the list."
The next deadline is November 30th. Albrecht says you need to be signed up by then if you want to be in for 2014. "Any registrations that come in after the 30th are considered the next quarter in which case they hit the list on April 1st." You can register your numbers online or over the phone. The state's call in number is 866-966-2255, which is 866-9NO-CALL.
