Monday night on The Voice , the top 12 entered the spotlight to sing and compete for viewers' votes. Two of them will be eliminated on Tuesday night's results show.
Coaches Adam Levine , Blake Shelton , Christina Aguilera and Cee Lo Green sat in their usual chairs to offer their two cents on the performances.
Here's a rundown of what happened:
Team Cee Lo's
opened the show with a sweet rendition of the
hit "Wake Me Up." Her coach marveled at how much she has improved from week to week. Blake quipped that Caroline did a good job of staying with the tempo even though the studio audience was out of rhythm with her. Adam jokingly scoffed, "What a nice thing to say about our studio audience."
Josh Logan of Team Christina applied his vocals to an acoustic rendition of Michael Jackson 's "Man in the Mirror." Christina noted that he showcased soul and heart with the song. Both Blake and Cee Lo preferred this performance to Josh's effort last week.
' debut single, "Mr. Brightside." His coach, Adam, pumped his fist in delight when it was all over, and he gushed, "You just turned into a rock star in front of our very eyes." Christina said she was concerned that James would be pitchy on such an energetic song, but that wasn't the case. Cee Lo added that James had such command of the stage.
Up next was Blake artist Austin Jenckes . He was assigned "It's a Great Day to Be Alive," which has been recorded by Travis Tritt , among others. Blake said he chose that song because he wanted the country fan base to embrace him. Adam couldn't believe Austin's "precision" on the high note.
Christina gave Jacquie Lee , 16, the Jack White version of "Love Is Blindness." Christina exclaimed, "You set the stage on fire." Adam added that her powerful voice comes out of her like a dragon. Cee Lo said he is transfixed on Jacquie whenever she sings, and that he wants to download her latest performance.
Team Blake's Ray Boudreaux tackled John Legend 's "All of Me." Blake said Ray successfully pulled off stepping out of his comfort zone. However, Christina said the vocals fell a little short in places.
Kat Robichaud of Team Cee Lo belted out "Sail" by electronic rock band AWOLNATION . In true rock star fashion, she went crowd surfing at one point. Cee Lo suggested that Kat properly conveyed the "pain" that's depicted in the lyrics. Christina loved the "darkness" of the performance.
Kat's teammate, Air Force veteran Jonny Gray , took the stage to play Phil Collins ' "Another Day in Paradise" on his acoustic guitar. Perhaps in keeping with Veterans Day, Cee Lo thanked him for being a "soldier" in working with him. Adam praised Jonny for his ability to "convey a message."
Adam tasked Tessanne Chin with the Emeli Sandé song "My Kind of Love." Adam remarked that she sings with emotion so effortlessly, and that watching her grow as an artist has been outstanding. Christina thought it was sweet that Tessanne was singing to her husband, who was sitting in the audience. She added that Tessanne's voice is so rich that it's as if she can handle anything.
Matthew Schuler performed Jeff Buckley 's version of "Hallelujah." Christina said Matthew has such a gift and it was brought to life with this song choice. Blake said he previously thought Jacquie was the front-runner on Christina's team, but this performance gave him pause.
went R&B with
's "Adorn." Blake said he's blown away with Cole no matter what genre he attempts. Cee Lo pointed out that he originally drafted Cole on his team during the blind auditions.
Adam protégé Will Champlin closed the broadcast with his take on Imagine Dragons ' "Demon." Adam said they could feel the passion in what Will does, and that's what he wants from his team.
The one-hour results show airs Tuesday night on NBC at 9 p.m. Eastern time. The show has promised that viewers will be able to help contestants in danger of elimination through Twitter via the "Instant Save," which will be explained on the program.
