Gavin DeGraw will kick off a headlining tour this spring in support of his new album, Make a Move -- and a portion of the proceeds will go to a good cause.
Some of the money from ticket sales from the tour, which kicks off March 24 in Birmingham, AL, will be donated to the Wounded Warriors Project, which raises awareness of the needs of injured service members. Ticket sales start November 15 at 10 a.m. Right now, the tour has dates scheduled through May 7, wrapping in Tulsa, OK.
Over the past few years, Gavin has either opened for, or co-headlined, some great tours with his pals Maroon 5 , Train and Colbie Caillat, and he says today, he's a better performer because he's learned so much from all of them.
"One of the great benefits of being on the road and traveling is that you get exposed to other artists' performances, and really are picking up this and that from them, just watching them," Gavin tells ABC News Radio. And the fast friendships he's made with all those artists have turned into an informal support network for his career as well.
"You know, being able to call up someone like [Train frontman] Pat Monahan and say, 'Hey man, what do you think about such and such?' and have him giving you an honest perspective of, you know, where he's been and what he's seen and talking to people like that...it's been a very special environment to be able to approach people in that way." In fact, he adds, "It actually probably is the most exciting thing about [my career]." (AUDIO IS ABC 1-ON-1)
Before Gavin heads out on the road, he'll perform at the annual Christmas tree lighting in Hollywood, CA alongside Cee Lo Green , Jewel and Toni Braxton . Later this month, you'll see him performing at this month's Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.
