Gov. Scott Walker: No target date for approving Kenosha casino

MADISON, WI (WTAQ) - Governor Scott Walker says he no longer has a target date for announcing whether he'll or approve or reject the proposed Kenosha casino.

The Republican Walker reaffirmed Friday what he told reporters in Wausau on Tuesday -- that he's no longer in a hurry to make up his mind on the $800 million Menominee Indian-Hard Rock casino and resort.

Friday, Walker told reporters in Madison that he's trying to balance some compelling and competing arguments about the need for jobs in the Kenosha region, and the potential job losses in other counties where other casinos fear a loss in revenues from a Kenosha gaming house.

Walker says he legally has plenty of time to make a decision, after the U.S. Bureau of Indian Affairs gave its blessing to the Kenosha casino a couple months ago.

The governor said Washington took years to consider the project, so there's no need for him to hurry either.
